HON JANAT MUKWAYA IN SAUDI ARABIA TO ATTEND THE FOURTH SESSION OF THE ISLAMIC CONFERENCE OF LABOUR MINISTERS

The Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development Hon Janat Balunzi Mukwaya met the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr Ali bin Nasser Al-Ghafees at the sidelines of the Fourth Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers, ICLM, held on February 22, February 2018 in the Red Sea Port City of Jeddah.  

The Conference is being held under the auspices of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, and will bring together Ministers of Labour from the 57 Member Countries that form this Organisation. The Ministers are expected to sign the Statute for the OIC Labour Centre, approved by the Forty-fourth council of Foreign Ministers, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Ministers are also expected to the OIC Labour Strategy, which sets out the main objectives and areas of cooperation among Member States, such as enhancing employability, protecting labour safety and well-being, enhancing labour productivity and minimizing unemployment.

Furthermore, the Conference will consider the OIC Mutual Recognition Arrangements Agreement for Skilled Labour Force and the recommended OIC bilateral agreement on the exchange of labour. The Ministers will also discuss the implementation of the Youth Employment Support Programme and related activities and will also appoint an ICLM Steering Committee.

The Minister was accompanied by Mr. Martin Wandera, Director of Labour, Ambassador Ahmed Ssenyomo, Permanent Representative at the OIC, Mr. Habib Migadde, First Secretary Uganda Embassy in Riyadh and Mr Yassin Abdulí Aziz Musoke, Labour Liaison, Uganda Officer.
